Milestones of sustainable agriculture in Brodowin
Development and milestones
Since its foundation in 1991, the Brodowin eco-village has developed into a showcase project for sustainable agriculture. Founded out of concern for the preservation of jobs and the environment, the former agricultural production cooperative "8. Mai Brodowin" was transformed into a modern agricultural enterprise that operates according to strict Demeter guidelines. From the planting of the first avenues to the establishment of the "Ökodorf Brodowin Gisela und Werner Upmeier Stiftung" foundation for environmental and nature conservation - many important steps have been taken to promote the region ecologically.
With over 30 years of experience in organic farming and a variety of projects, including its own dairy and the expansion of a delivery service, Brodowin can look back on an impressive development. Special highlights such as the visit of King Charles III and the introduction of innovative products make the history of Brodowin lively and exciting.
Strong partnerships for sustainability
In order to meet the high standards of organic farming, we rely on close cooperation with Demeter farmers from the region. These partnerships enable us to offer high-quality dairy products on a larger scale, while at the same time promoting local value creation. Brodowin values
Brodowin's mission statement is based on the core values of regionality, authenticity and seasonality. The produce is harvested fresh from the field and often reaches customers within a day. Short transportation routes and a well thought-out delivery system - including emission-free delivery in Berlin's S-Bahn ring - not only protect the environment, but also guarantee the freshness of the food.
Brodowin also pursues a particularly environmentally and nature conservation-oriented approach by avoiding the use of chemicals. Biodiversity is promoted through targeted nature conservation measures that go beyond the Demeter guidelines. Social commitment is also a top priority: The integration of people with disabilities and the creation of jobs are central concerns of the community.
